A fighting half century by Guyanese left hander Assad Fudadin ensured West Indies A closed day 2 of their first unofficial test against Sri Lanka A in a comfortable position at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Fudadin is not out on 81 while skipper Kirk Edwards is unbeaten on 22 as the host ended on 147-1 after 48 overs in reply to Sri Lanka A first innings total of 472.
Resuming on their overnight first innings score of 310-5 with Ashan Priyanjana on 51 and Chathuranga De Silva on 4, Sri Lanka A progressed to 354 before Priyajana was bowled by Shannon Gabriel with a delivery that kept low for 65.
De Silva soon became the fifth batsman to register a half century; his fifty came off 62 balls and contained five fours and one six. He then shared in a 7th wicket stand of 59 with Tharindu Kaushal before the latter fended a lifter to Kirk Edwards from Sheldon Cotterel at 404-7.
Madura Lakmal was then trapped leg before by left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul for 1 to leave the score at 406-8. De Silva however continued to take the challenge to the bowlers with some handsome shots on both sides of the wicket.
He reached his century in 173 minutes off 153 balls; his innings included eight fours and three sixes. De Sliva and Suranga Lakmal (35) then took the score to 471 before Lakmal became the ninth wicket to fall when he was neatly stumped by Chadwick Walton as he danced down the pitch to Miller.
De Silva was then caught behind off Miller for 109 as Sri Lanka were bowled out in 130 overs. De Silva batted for 194 minutes and faced 149 balls hitting eight fours and three sixes. Nikita Miller was the pick of the bowlers for the host with 6-141.
Assad Fudadin and Kraigg Brathwaite started Windies A’s strong reply; the pair brought up their team’s fifty in 21 overs before Braithwaite was taken at forward short leg for 37. Fudadin soon reached his well deserved half century off 108 balls in 137 minutes with five fours.
He and Edwards has so far put together 64 a second wicket stand. Today is the third day and Sri Lanka are leading by 325 runs.
