– present prizes to futsal football winners
By Edison Jefford
Ansa McAl, under its Mackeson Stout brand, yesterday hosted a Presentation Ceremony where it officially handed over the prize monies and trophies to the top two teams of the Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ football competition, which concluded Saturday night.
Mackeson Brand Manager, Jamaal Douglas, who handed over the prizes to the teams, committed to expanding the competition next year to include more individual awards among more venues as the winning Sparta Boss captain, Devon Millington, cited the need for such incentives.
“We love the responses we got from the tournament and next year we’ll be hoping for a nation-wide competition at more venues across Guyana. We are very satisfied with the response we got and we need to maintain such momentum,” Douglas told the media.
“Next year we will definitely be going bigger and better, and will certainly look at the individual prizes as Devon said,” Douglas noted, adding that the 2013 tournament that Mackeson sponsored was a tremendous success on all levels.
The Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive tournament that was held at venues such as the School St. and Punt Trench, Albouystown, California Square, East Ruimveldt, The National Cultural Centre tarmac with Finals at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall tarmac Saturday night, was well-received within those communities with a capacity crowd thronging the Finals.
Coordinator of the tournament, Kevin Adonis, thanked Mackeson for their support, adding that the event exceeded expectations in terms of the response from patrons. Adonis believes that the response was a direct consequence of the partnership with Mackeson.
“This year was the biggest year of the three-year history of the tournament. This is the first year Mackeson has sponsored the event, so I had to sort of prove myself that this thing could be a big thing and it was big. I think it could only get bigger,” Adonis said.
Sparta Boss, with its star-studded line-up that included the goal scoring duo of Millington and Dennis Edwards, carted off $300,000 and a Championship trophy for winning the competition while the underdogs, Festival City got $150,000 and trophy for placing second in a three-way playoffs that also included West Front Road.
“On behalf of my team, I would like to thank Mackeson for hosting this tournament. We worked hard for this; we had some critics, but we blanked them out. We want to see individual awards in the tournament like MVP, Most Goal Scorer etc.,” Millington said.
Both Douglas and Adonis committed to improving in that regard and thanked the players and the teams for their full participation and cooperation throughout the event that ran for three weeks in Georgetown. They congratulated all the prize winners from the tournament.
