A businesswoman has accused the police of wrongfully executing her Pit Bull dog, Sampson, and stealing her money. She is calling on the top brass of the Guyana Police Force to launch an investigation into the incident.
Cheryl Fraser lives at Lot 17 Tucville and operates a beer garden at the same address. She said that she and her brother have had differences and on several occasions she had lodged reports at the police station in her jurisdiction.
She said that about two weeks ago, she had lodged another report after her brother had assaulted her. She said that the law enforcement officers advised her to contact them when she would have seen her brother again.
Ms. Fraser said that her brother lives at an apartment behind hers but utilizes the entrance on the western side of her property for ingress and egress; she accesses her premises through an eastern entrance. The aggrieved woman said that she saw her brother on Sunday last and immediately informed the police and they eventually visited the scene some two hours later. She said that she was not at home when the officers arrived.
She returned later in the evening and discovered that her dog, which was chained near the general ablution area, lay dead. She said that her nephew, Christopher, informed her that several police officers had barged into the yard and the dog had become irritated and started barking.
She said that she was further informed that one of the officers drew his firearm and shot the dog at point blank range. When she returned later in the day the animal was on the ground with a bleeding wound in the area of his mouth.
Ms. Fraser said that she called at the Police Station and was advised to visit to lodge a report. She said that she could not fathom lodging a report against the officers at the station out of which they operated and opted instead to lodge a complaint at the Police Complaints Department in Brickdam. She said that she was forced to come to Kaieteur News after the officer at the Police Complaints Department asked her to return to the very police station to report the matter.
When Kaieteur News visited the scene of the incident, the dog lay dead in the western passageway, instead of the eastern, where Ms. Fraser said he was shot. She said that she had removed him since the corpse had started to smell. A chain dangled from the entrance of the ablution area in the eastern section of the yard where she said the dog was shot.
The police when contacted said that they will launch an investigation when Ms. Fraser lodges a report.
