Dear Editor,
I continue to be distressed by the negative expressions by so many writers in such voluminous letters in the press. Do these people really feel that such a strategy will contribute to solving any of the countless problems that they refer to, or will they serve to harden the positions of their imagined adversary – the elected government – and so move us further from any solutions?
I concede that these personalities do seem to be genuinely concerned about the development of our country, and impress with their ability to use the language to promote their points of view. Would it then not be of better advantage to all of us if they should use this interest and skill to try to develop a channel through which they could liaison with the authorities on the matters about which they feel so strongly, most of which I myself do feel need to be urgently addressed?
I propose that such a strategy would certainly evoke a favourable reception by those they now condemn, and should contribute to the development of a culture of positive interaction which would have a greater chance of solving the burning issues which continue to hamper our progress.
