Over $8M at stake
With the inclement weather in full swing and taking its toll on outdoor activities in Guyana, the Jumbo Jet Horseracing entity has come up with an action plan that will cushion the effects of the horses not being able to race.
Known for its big involvement and investment in activities in Guyana more so in horseracing, Jumbo Jet has done again, this time they have teamed up with the Port Mourant Turf Club and the Kris Jagdeo Construction to stage a one day Meet on Sunday June 16 at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The main trust is to keep the horses in shape and provide a chance to earn for those involved in the industry. Over $7M will be at stake with eight races carded for the day. The feature event will be the C and Lower race over a distance of 1600M with the winner set to run away with $1M and trophy.
The co-feature event for three-year-old horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies will see the animals racing over a distance of 1400M for a winning pocket of $500,000 and trophy.
The E & Lower 1400M event also has an attractive prize of $500,000 and trophy at stake.
Then there is an event for G & Lower animals over a distance of 1200M for a pole position taking of $400,000 and trophy up for grabs.
There is another race for three-year-old horses, this time those bred and born in Guyana over 1200M for an encouraging winners money of $300,000 and trophy. There is a sprint for two-year-old animals that will be running for the first time over a distance of 600M with a winner’s money of $300,000 and trophy on offer.
The ‘I’ & Lower gallop is also over 1200M for a first prize of $250,000 and trophy.
There will be an event for J and Lower horses also over 1200M for a winning purse of $200,000 and trophy.
Among the sponsors who have indicated willingness so far to be a part of the day’s programme are Banks DIH Ltd, Jumbo Jet, Romel Jagroop, Shariff and Trophy Stall.
The organisers have also announced some incentives for owners on the day a reduction in the entrance fee by 10% instead of 12%. No reduction in prize monies regardless of how few entries or lack of sponsorship while the entrance fee to the ground will be only $1,000.
No late entries will be entertained and horses are subjected to re-classification before the start of the event.
The events will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. The top individual performers, including the best jockey and stable will receive accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
