A fine half century by Shimron Hetymer guided Memorex to a 2 wicket victory over Regal XI in the final of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League 12\12 tournament yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club.
Hetymer slammed three fours and six sixes in a top score of 74 as Memorex successfully chased 132 in 12 overs. He was supported by Waheid Edwards 16 (1×4) and Vishal Phillips 10 (1×6). Balram Roopnarine claimed 3-27 and Safraz Esau 2-48 for the runner team.
Batting first in front of a large crowd, Regal XI posted 132-2 off their allocation of 12 overs. Richard Latiff top scored with 63 (5X4, 3X6) not out, while Patrick Rooplall made 38 (3×4, 2×6) and Safraz Esau 22 (1×4, 2×6). Roy Jafferally and Vishal Phillips took 1 wicket each.
Memorex received $600,000 and a trophy, while Regal XI took home $200,000 and a trophy. Hetymer copped the man-of-the-match, best batsman and most valuable player prizes while Tyrone Sanasie collected the most outstanding bowler trophy.
Meanwhile, Memorex XI defeated Trophy Stall by 10 runs in the first semi-final. Memorex XI batted first and posted 136-4 in 12 overs. Farouk Hussain led with 57 (3×4, 5×6) while Joshua Garnett chipped in with 25(3×6) not out and Waheid Edwards 17. Narine Bailey picked up 2-17 for Trophy Stall who responded with 126-7 in 12 overs. Vishnu Tamechandra made 32, while Devindra Deosarran contributed 22 not out; Roy Jafferally captured 3-27.
In the second semi-final, Speed Boat XI lost to Regal XI by 8 wickets. Speed Boat XI took first strike and managed 98-7 in 12 overs. David George top scored with 32 (3×4, 1×6) while Anand Bharat supported with 27 (3×4). Tyrone Sanasie, Troy Phillips and Greg Singh claimed 1 wicket apiece.
Regal XI replied with 99-2 in 8.5 overs. Patrick Rooplall was their leading run scorer with 35 (3×4, 3×6)while Chien Gittens and Latiff made 20 and 18 respectively.
Dilo Enterprise, DC Promotions, Five Star Minerals, El Dorado Trading and Ryan and Reuben Mahadeo (all out of Bartica), Star Party Rentals, Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Romain Car Wash, Bank of Baroda, Ravi Sarwan and Trophy Stall were some of the sponsors on board.
