– final team practice held yesterday at Timehri Ranges
By Franklin Wilson
Caribbean Fullbore Shooting Kings, Guyana is primed and ready to hit the Bulls-eye consistently when they travel to Barbados later this week to defend their Long and Short Range titles at the 2013 edition of the Caribbean Fullbore Rifle Shooting Championships set for the Paragon Ranges in the Land of the Flying Fish.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport after the final Team practice session yesterday at the Timehri Rifle Ranges, Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud said that the session went well as they were able to achieve a clock work like session.
“We shot at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges and I think it went well. Some of the guys are really coming on now apart from those we know who have been in the top bracket. The intensity is coming on and I believe that we will be ready to take on the rest of the Caribbean and successfully defend our titles.”
Persaud, a very experienced and tough customer has been Captain for Guyana for many years and is expecting that all his charges will display the hunger and desire that is part of the package of Guyana’s shooters at this level.
He did mention that the Guyanese wanted to do better against the British Rifle Shooting Team that took on the Guyanese in a three-day shoot (individual & team) last week, but it was stated prior to their arrival that that was not important since they already had their plan sorted out in terms of training towards the Caribbean championships.
Making a welcome return to the competitive ranks after being out of the sport for 11 years is Leo Ramalho who won the O-Class at the recent National Championships. Ramalho is no stranger to high level competition having represented Guyana before and was also part of the Guyana team that defeated the British in Jamaica in 1996.
Headlining the Guyanese team will be defending Caribbean King of the Ranges Lennox Braithwaite who had a good run against the British. National King of the Ranges Ransford Goodluck, also a former Caribbean King will add depth to the Guyana team as will Captain Mahendra Persaud, former Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe.
The Guyana team is a solid unit with all the shooters having had experience at the highest level some of whom have also competed at Bisley in England.
The other team members are Dylan Fields, Dane Blair, Charles Dean, Lt. Col. Terrance Stuart, Peter Persaud and USA based Sigmund Douglas.
With regards to sponsorship, Persaud stated that they are still awaiting a few donors to come up with their commitments and he is hoping that that will be done prior to their departure on Thursday.
Full Team: Mahendra Persaud, Lennox Braithwaite, Ransford Goodluck, Paul Slowe, Dylan Fields, Sigmund Douglas, Leo Ramalho, Lt. Col Terrance Stuart, Dane Blair, Charles Dean, Peter Persaud.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
