Joel Spooner grabbed 5 wickets for 34 runs as his team Transport Sports Club (TSC) defeated Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 3 wickets, while Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) overcame Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ‘B’ by 6 runs when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association\Brain Street U-15 tournament continued yesterday.
At GCC, the home team batted first and were bowled out for 109 in 33 overs. Ronaldo Mohamed top scored with 38 and got support from Joshua Raghubeer and Umesh Boodram with 20 each as Nicholas Wells backed up Spooner with 3-21. TSC replied with 110-7 in 42.3 overs. Mark Baptiste led with 23 while Akean Hiles made 17; Raulwayne Payne claimed 2-10 and Khenchandra Hardyal 2-20.
At GYO, the host took first strike and rattled up 166 before they were bowled out in 35 overs. Prakash Debidyal stroked 42 while Gavin Budwah contributed 33 as Darian Dickson snared 4-38 and Marvin Carter 3-39. DCC ‘B’ in response fell for 160 in 61.3 overs. Extras led with 70 while Reaz Ali made 38 and Dickson 24; Satanand Ramkumar captured 3-14, Afzal Rohaman 2-15 and Andy Dowletram 2-32.
On Thursday last, Georgetown ladies got the better of TSC by 8 wickets at Muslim Youth Organisation. TSC were bowled out for 72 in 14 overs, batting first. Akean Hiles was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 20 while Onika Wallerson bagged 5-9, Joan Vansertima 2-4 and Leanna Harris 2-15. The ladies then knocked off the required target in 9 overs as they finished on 73-2. Latoya Smith scored 27 and June Ogle 19 not out.
At GYO, Queens College (QC) went down to the host by 5 wickets. QC made 119 all out in 47 overs. Habeeb Hamid slammed 36 as Rajpaul Gopaul snared 2-11 and Shane Chatoorag 2-12. GYO responded with 120-5 in 21 overs. Gavin Budwah made 35; Hamid was QC leading bowler with 3-20 while C. Baird took 2-28.
At DCC, Everest triumphed over DCC ‘B’ by 90 runs. Everest rattled up 171 all out in 33 overs, batting first. Darshan Persaud was their leading run getter with 35 while Christopher Naipaul made 25. Darian Dickson took 3 wickets for DCC ‘B’ who were routed for 81 in reply.
On Tuesday, at Everest, GYO hammered the host by 149 runs. GYO rattled up 242 all out in 48 overs. Seecharan Gangaram was their leading run scorer with 36 while Gavin Budwah, Rajpaul Gopaul and Prakash Debidyal and chipped in with 31, 27 and 25 respectively. D. Persaud took 4-36 and C. Mohan 3-38. Everest could only muster 93 in 34.3 overs in reply. Harrichandra Seeraj picked up 5-11.
At GYO, Queens College (QC) beat TSC by 9 runs. QC batted first and managed 124 all out in 31 overs with Haseed Hamid scoring 21, Clarence Baird 20 and Ronaldo McGarrell 18; Jamal Michael captured 5-20, Joel Spooner 2-13 and Nicholas Wells 2-15. TSC folded for 115 in 28 overs in response. Akean Hiles made 21, Hamid returned to take 5-31 and Anthony Singh 4-9.
