Police are trying to locate the operator of a Canter truck, which was involved in an accident on Saturday afternoon that left a 52 year old man hospitalized with broken limbs and lacerations to his body.
The man, Harry Ganesh of Dairy Farm, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) around 14:10 hours on Saturday, minutes after he was struck and tossed in mid air by the truck, GPP4692.
He was picked up in a semi conscious condition and taken to the hospital by the driver of the truck who left without reporting to the police at the GPHC outpost.
According to information reaching this newspaper, Ganesh, who was supposed to return to the interior for duty sometime this week, was at a gas station in Eccles when the accident occurred.
The man said that he was on his bicycle, attempting to cross the East Bank Demerara Public Road from the western side when the speeding truck struck him and hurled him into the air.
Ganesh related that the men on the truck, one of whom he said is a “rasta man” assisted in taking him to the GPHC but escaped after he was taken into the Accident and Emergency Unit by attendants.
Yesterday, at the hospital, Ganesh who was admitted to the Surgical Ward said he only remembered there were four men in the truck. Fortunately the security guards at the GPHC recorded the vehicle’s registration number and passed it on to the police who are investigating the accident.
