Now that the year 2012 is over, it is customary that the media lead the selection of choices for the Sportsman and Woman of the Year awards and Kaieteur Sport will endeavour to pick their nominees for the respective categories.
In this edition, Superbike champion Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira has been nominated to be among the leading candidates for the award due to his outstanding performance over the past year when
he retained the Caribbean title to follow his feat in 2011.
Vieira, who has been the most dominant racer in the Superbike category for the past four years once again showed his superiority, by capturing the most wins in the Caribbean segment in all three countries that the championship was staged.
The reigning champion obliterated the field in the opening Meet at Dover Raceway in Jamaica and followed that up with another captivating display at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados, before returning home to end the year on a high after capturing two of the three races in the regional competition to be crowned overall champion.
The easy going Superbike supremo in addition to being repeat champion of the Caribbean has also dominated the local Meets and is clearly worthy of being among the top contenders for the Sportsman of the Year award.
