The man who allegedly stabbed his step nephew to death after the youth had spurned his advances, was charged with murder on Monday. Roy Lewis, 36, of Glasgow Housing Scheme appeared before magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on the charge of murder.
He reportedly killed Devon Da Silva, called Devon Lewis, on Thursday December 27, last, at Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice. He was not required to plead.
Da Silva, 18, of Lot 54 Sisters Village, was brutally stabbed to death while in bed with his girlfriend, Ashley Whyte, called “Toya”, 18. The two were at Whyte’s parents’ home at 112 Sisters Village. The killer was said to be a jealous man who became obsessed with the youth, Da Silva.
The crime of passion came about after the youth was constantly abused. He was repeatedly being seduced and threatened by the jealous man.
The youth, who was reportedly forced into an intimate relationship with Lewis, was asleep beside his girlfriend Ashley Whyte, when Lewis entered the house and reportedly stabbed him several times about his body.
Lewis had reportedly entered the house through an unlocked door which he bolted from the inside before going to the bedroom and inflicted the grievous injuries on the now dead Da Silva.
He was said to have ingested a poisonous substance and was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital. He was released on Monday.
The youth was about 14 years old when the accused first forced him into an intimate relationship.
Lewis and Da Silva previously lived at the same residence.
Lewis had also on a number of occasions threatened to kill the youth after Da Silva stopped accepting his gifts.
Da Silva eventually sought employment at the Providence Cement Packaging plant. Lewis, who was a seaman stopped working at sea and also sought employment at the same entity.
He reportedly started to puncture Da Silva’s bicycle and reportedly attempted to feed him food laced with poison on a few occasions.
Da Silva reportedly sought employment in the interior and was away for over two and a half months. He travelled home recently to be with relatives and his girlfriend for the Christmas season.
Lewis appeared in court barefooted and in shackles. No relative was in court.
He will return to court on February 12, when the matter will be called again at the Sisters Magistrate’s Court.
