One of three police ranks allegedly involved in ransacking and unlawfully removing $139,000 from a Wakenaam house remains under close arrest. However, the other two have reportedly fled to another island.

He said the three ranks, one a sergeant, a criminal investigation (CID) rank and the other a constable, kicked down his door and made entry to his house after which the sergeant held him at gun point.
According to Persaud, he reported the matter at the Anna Regina Police Station because the ranks were attached to the Wakenaam Police Station.
Persaud said the sergeant, who was at the Anna Regina-based Divisional Headquarters, for a meeting, was ordered arrested immediately after the complaint.
Persaud, a rice and cattle farmer, said that the ranks went to his home under the pretext that they were doing a raid looking for illegal articles including counterfeit money.
He told Kaieteur News that at the time of the alleged ransacking, his reputed wife and their four children between two and six years old were at home.

Persaud explained that he does not usually keep those sums in his home but had the money there because he recently sold two bulls for the sum of 150,000 and used some of the money during the holidays.
He noted that his family remains extremely terrified as a result of the 30-minute ordeal.
