Botofago FC will want to follow in the footsteps of the two other Region 10-based teams Eagles United and Kwakwani Strikers when they face Ann’s Grove All Stars in the feature clash of a double header in preliminary phase of this year’s Banks Beer Knockout Cup this evening at the GFC ground, starting from 18:00 hrs.
They will no doubt be aiming to defeat Ann’s Grove All Stars and make it the third team from the Mining Community to be in with a chance to qualify for the 16-team tournament which officially opens on December 16, at the GFC ground.
The two teams are part of an eight-team competition which will see the top two qualify to participate in the Cup which have total prize money valued in excess of $9million up for grabs.
The winning team will receive $4Million, runner-up- $2.5M, 3rd place-$1.5M and 4th place-$1M with outstanding individual performances to benefit from additional incentives.
Meanwhile, in today’s opening encounter, Kwakwani Strikers tackle Eagles United with the winner guaranteed a spot in the next phase of the tournament.
Kwakwani Strikers were 1-0 winners over Banks All Stars, while Eagles United defeated Victoria Kings 2-1 last Sunday.
The other teams in the competition are: Sunburst Camptown, Houston Stars, Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Northern Rangers, Santos, University of Guyana, Riddim Squad, Beacon, Fruta Conquerors, Flamingo, Black Pearl, Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Net Rockers.
