Police on the East Coast of Demerara have not yet ruled out foul play in the death of 29-year old Lakeram Parasram, whose body was pulled from a trench at Sheriga Scheme, Enmore North, early yesterday morning.
The discovery was made by residents of the community, at about 07:30 hours, and a large crowd gathered to get a glimpse.
Kaieteur News understands that the body bore a wound to the head, but police could not immediately say if there was any foul play involved.
Parasram, who lived with a friend at 171 Enmore North, had left his home for a routine voyage at sea. He never got to the boat.
Police are investigating rumours that someone had called Parasram several minutes before his body was discovered.
The friend with whom he lived believes that foul play is involved in Parasram’s death and is calling for a thorough investigation.
The dead man’s mother, Chandrawattie Singh, of First Street, Foulis, was informed of his death, but she could not provide police with any useful information that would definitively determine the cause of his death.
The body was removed by undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Parlour. Investigators will have to rely on a post mortem examination to determine the way forward with their probe.
