The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Pepsi Under-19 team, along with the Special Events Committee of the Berbice cricket team, on Wednesday, last donated a set of cricket gears and thirty six pairs of sladders to the Betsy Ground Cricket Club of Canje. The gears included a cricket bat, a batting pad, wicketkeeping pad and gloves, a box of cricket balls and two set so cricket stumps. The combined value of the donation was $80,000.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTY&SC and Chairman of the Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, who was invited by the Betsy Ground Club to speak to its members, urged the attentive cricketers to always strive for excellence and to develop a culture of discipline, unity and commitment.
The RHTY&SC and the BCB, Foster stated, was delighted to assist the one-month old club but challenged the members to be pro-active and to develop themselves while educating them on the reasons why the RHTY&SC has been so successful. He committed his club to assisting more in the future once the membership of the BGCC shows progress.
Treasurer of the BCB, Anil Beharry, in brief remarks, congratulated the newly formed cricket club on its progress to date and informed them of the tournaments they can play under the banner of the BCB. Beharry cautioned that success does not come easy or overnight, and they must be prepared to work beyond the call of duty. Berbice cricket, Beharry stated, is at its highest peak ever and everyone must work together to keep it that way.
Chairman of the club, Radesh Seepersaud, praised the RHT Pepsi team and the BCB for the donation and pledged that the membership would take proper care of the gears. He thanked both BCB officials for their words of advice and encouragement and stated his admiration for the work of the RHTY&SC and the BCB.
