Softball cricket fans along the Essequibo Coast and those in the Pomeroon community are gearing up for lots of action when beverage giant, Banks DIH Ltd, in collaboration with Virgin Promotions, hosts a 2 days cricket tournament on the Golden Fleece and Perseverance Beaches. Activities get underway tomorrow morning, while the finals will be contested of November 25 next.
Chief Executive Officer (Banks DIH), Rawl Pearce said that already 32 teams comprising 28 male and four female from Wakenaam, Essequibo Coast and the Pomeroon River, are expected to participate.
They will be vying for a first place prize of $150,000 while the second place finisher receives $75,000. The third place team receives $50,000. The top female team carts off $25,000, while the runners-up receive $10,000. There will also be novelty games where players could contest for other prizes.
Essequibo residents love their cricket and large crowds are expected to grace the matches.
Mr. Pearce promised that there will be keen rivalry, punctuated with lots of fun and frolic. He said that models will distribute novelties prizes to the supporters. “Patrons can expect two days of fun and excitement punctuated with the distribution of priceless memorabilia and souvenirs,” promised Mr. Pearce. The action gets underway at 09:30hrs each day. (Yannason Duncan)
