George Khan was refused bail yesterday after he faced Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of unlawful wounding.
Khan was not required to plead to charge, which stated that on October 19 he wounded Leon Brown, a co-worker, with a hammer.
The accused told the court that he had no problem with the victim as to want to harm him in such a way. Khan claimed that Brown was attacked while he was asleep. He later awoke.
“When I look, Brown in a pool a blood”
Khan insisted that someone else had beaten the man and claimed that he has numerous witnesses who can verify his statements as the truth.
According to the police, Khan used a hammer to beat Brown in the head and about the body, badly wounding the man and breaking several of his bones in the process, after they had a verbal dispute.
The court learnt that the victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is still a patient. The victim reportedly had his left foot broken in five places as a result of the incident. The accused, who told the court that he has other pending matters, was remanded until Friday (November 2), when he will make his next appearance.
