Twenty-one year-old Trevor Wayne of Melanie Public Road faced Magistrate Sueanna Lovell on Monday, last, charged with larceny. Wayne allegedly stole a gold band valued at $500,000 from Sheneeza Barakat.
Police allege that on October 19, while in Georgetown, Wayne snatched the gold band from the victim and escaped, he however handed the stolen article over to an accomplice before being arrested.
Wayne pleaded not guilty to the charge, as his Attorney, Paul Fung–A–Fat, requested bail. The lawyer claimed that his client was never placed on an ID parade. He said that his client, who “walks and sells” witnessed “someone snatch something from a woman and run off with it.”
Fung –A- Fat was of the view that his client was wrongfully accused. He asked that bail be set at an affordable sum as the defendant comes from a poor family. The prosecution made no objection. Bail was set at $75,000
