Police have launched an investigation into the shooting of a taxi driver identified as Junior Edward Freeman.
The 24-year-old Middle Road La Penitence resident sustained a single gunshot to his right shoulder, inflicted by bandits who attacked and robbed him early yesterday morning.
According to reports, Freeman was shot by two bandits on bicycle around 2:00 hours yesterday. His assailants escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Latoya Freeman, the injured man’s sister told Kaieteur News that she was startled out of her sleep by what sounded like gunshots.
“Three minutes after, I heard my brother calling and my mother said he get shoot by two bandits on bicycles. The bullets shattered the car’s windscreen and hit Junior on his shoulder. We had to rush he to the hospital.”
The distraught woman disclosed that her brother is listed in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Further reports indicate that the bullet entered Freeman’s shoulder, missed his spinal cord and was lodged in his back.
A police statement said that the 24-year-old had just arrived at his home at the time of the attack.
