Jairam amassed 18 points to win the Region 3 Draughts competition which was contested last Sunday at Haroon’s Place, Pourderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
L. Wilson took the second place with 15 points while Haroon Bacchus placed third with 11 points. T. Persaud and Mitra Persaud were awarded the incentives prizes. Jairam who hails from the Island of Leguan dedicated the victory to his fellow Islanders.
Trophies for the top three finishers were donated by the National Sports Commission. Meanwhile, Jairam who is the President of the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA), encouraged more players from the region to join the sport since Guyana is already playing at the international level.
The GDA is extending thanks to Shairaz Ali of Two Brothers Gas Station, Fagu of Fagu’s General Store, Pooran Brothers, Tiwari Drug Store and Shamus Ramotar for their contributions that made the tournament a success.
