Former Santos and national footballer Paul Meadows died last Sunday at his home in Brooklyn, New York after suffering from heart attack. He was 39.
Born on the 7th of January 1973, Meadows, who grew up in North East La Penitence, represented Guyana as a midfielder at the U-21 and U-23 levels before migrating to the USA in 2003. He started playing the game as a teenager for Santos FC and became one of their most prolific goal scorers helping them to many titles.
Former coach of Santos FC, Kavin Pearce, told Kaieteur Sport that he spoke with Meadows Saturday last and expressed shocked at his passing. He said that Meadows last words to him were “I am coming to Guyana soon and I will surprise you”. Meadows was married and had three daughters.
