Barrington, Heyliger, Lindore and Fraser hit half centuries for GDF
Wicketkeeper batsman Derwin Christian hit a commanding century to guide Demerara Cricket Club to first innings points over Guyana Defence Force when play in the Carib Beer and Friends of Cricket\ Georgetown Cricket Association first division two day competition continued at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Queenstown last weekend.
In pursuit of GDF first innings total of 360, DCC who resumed on their overnight score of 118-1, declared on 363-8 after 66.5 overs. Christian, who reached his century with a boundary through cover, smashed nine sixes and six fours before he was dismissed for 111. He received valuable support from opener Andrew Lyght Jnr who made 79(9×4,4×6), Paul Wintz with an even half century which contained three fours and one six, and Christopher Barnwell 34.
Dennis Legay was the pick of the bowlers for GDF with 4-68, while Randy Lindore took 2-71.
Earlier, GDF who won the toss and elected to bat first, were off to a good start with Shemroy Barrington and Isaiah Brijadar adding 68 for the opening stand before pacer Barnwell had Brijadar leg before for 14.
Mark Haynes was then run out for 2 with the score on 79 but Barrington who batted well for 66 (10×4,1×6), Maxwell Fraser 63(2×6,8×4), Dillon Heyliger 63(8×4,2×6), Randy Lindore 62 (4×4,3×6) and Marcus Watkins 45 ensured they reached a respectable total before they were bowled out in 67.5 overs.
Left arm spinner Totaram Bishun finished with figures of 5-131 off 24.5 overs, while Paul Wintz took 2-62 from 12. Barnwell 1-37 and Orlando Sturge 1-27 were the other wicket takers for the host. GDF trailing by 3 runs declared in the last hour of the match on 155-8 off 30 overs in their second innings. Barrington was again their leading run scorer with 64, while Heyliger supported well with 53 and Mark Haynes 23. Left arm spinner Totaram Bishun bagged 5-68 to end with match figures of 10-199. Orlando Sturge 2-41 and Barnwell 1-29 were the other wicket takers for DCC who finished on 18 without loss after three overs in their second turn at the crease as the game ended as a drawn encounter.
