Heroes Cup GCA 1st Division 2-day tourney
Sean DeSouza slammed a fine century as Guyana National Industrial Corporation defeated Transport Sports Club by an innings and 63 runs when play in the Carib Beer Friends of Cricket Heroes Cup\Georgetown Cricket Association first division two day tournament continued in the city last weekend with two matches.
At DCC, GNIC batted first and totaled 379-9 declared off 64 overs. DeSouza slammed eight sixes and nine fours before he was dismissed for 140, while Marc Nicholson supported well with 80 (8×4, 5×6) and Ronale Bourne 40. Ewart Samuels took 3-65, while there were two wickets each for Leon Peters and Shai Chase.
Transport in their turn at the crease were routed for 187 in 43 overs. Quinn Proctor 37, Sunil Singh and Steven Alves with 24 each were their principal scorers as leg spinner Bourne bagged 5-23 and Orlando Fraser 4-30 for GNIC.
Transport SC following on in their second innings were dismissed for 129 in 35.3 overs before lunch on the second and final day. Peters top scored with 45, while Sherwin Lovell contributed 37 as pacer Raul Muriel captured 5-23 off 10.3 overs for the winners.
At Malteenoes, the home team got the better of Everest Cricket Club by 8 wickets. Everest took first turn at the crease and could only muster 99 all out in 25 overs. Dianand Roopnarine and Rajendra Chandreka made 16 apiece as Kellon Carmichael grabbed 3-40, while Seon Daniels took 2-33 and Steven Jacobs 2-14.
Malteenoes in their turn at the crease scored 177 before they were bowled out in 43.2 overs. Imran Hassan led with 52 (11×4), while Jacobs and Carmichael chipped in with 28 and 26 respectively. Javed Rasheed claimed 4-40, while leg spinner Amir Khan picked up 3-53 and Damien Vantull 2-36.
The visitors trailing by 78 runs managed 152 all out off 46.1 overs in their second innings. Khan showed his all round ability by top-scoring with 68, while Jacobs claimed 3-24, Steven Sankar 3-22 and Daniels 2-25.
Malteenoes then hit off the required target in 12.4 overs as they ended on 75-2. Orin Forde was their leading batsman with 57 (7×4, 3×6). (Zaheer Mohamed)
