Three men are now assisting the Bartica Police with investigations into the discovery of a box of ammunition yesterday afternoon in a passenger speedboat that had arrived from Parika.
The red and white box was discovered in a bag also containing a quantity of seine materials and was on the bottom of the vessel.
It is believed that whoever was in possession of the ammunition dropped it, fearing a possible random check by police.
The boats after arriving at the Bartica stelling would leave the stelling area and dock at their respective boat house to await their turn to load. It is not unusual that persons would claim that they forgot an item in the boat and clandestinely collect same.
This development occurs in the face of an increase of persons now using the Bartica route as a detour from Linden where protests are ongoing over hikes in electricity rates.
