A man believed to be the prime suspect in the murder of insurance executive Bert Whyte narrowly escaped from police at New Amsterdam on Thursday night, but was forced to abandon his victim’s stolen car.
Kaieteur News understands that the man was driving Whyte’s Toyota Sprinter, PKK 8566, at around 22:00 hrs when a traffic rank spotted the vehicle. At the time, the car was carrying false number plates.
The policeman attempted to stop the vehicle but the occupant drove into Angoy’s Avenue and subsequently escaped.
Police eventually located the vehicle in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
