Pedestrian killed on V/Hoop road

Police are trying to ascertain the identity of a male pedestrian who was killed at around 20:45 hrs yesterday after being run over by a car on the Vreed-en-Hoop public road, West Coast Demerara.
The victim, known only as ‘Chungie’, is said to be of East Indian ancestry, and resides at Crane, West Coast Demerara.
The driver of the vehicle has alleged that he was driving east along the public road when he accidentally ran over ‘Chungie’, who was lying on the roadway.
Eyewitnesses said that the pedestrian was killed on the spot. His body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home, while the driver was detained at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
