extended its generosity to the horse racing fraternity when Outdoor Events Manager Mortimer Stewart handed over the winning trophy for the feature race in the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club / Jumbo Jet Auto Sales Guyana Cup 2012 Fever Meet which will be staged today, at the club’s facility, West Coast Berbice.
The presentation which was done at the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market yesterday saw Stewart presenting the impressive trophy to Organising Secretary of the Meet Compton Sancho.
The Beverage giants representative in brief remarks said that the Company is always willing to support ventures that will aid in the development of sport and when approached by the organizers had no difficulty in confirming their support for the event.
Stewart, who is an ardent follower of the sport, promised the Company’s assistance in the future.
Sancho, who has been instrumental in garnering support through sponsorship in response thanked Stewart and the Banks DIH family for their unwavering commitment to the development of sport, pointing to the specific case of horse racing which has undoubtedly enjoyed the goodwill of the Company for a number of years.
A total of nine races are carded for the day with the feature being the ‘B’ & Lower event which will be contested over a distance of 1400 metres and a first prize of $1.5million, while 2nd place receives $750,000 and 3rd place $375,000.
Starting time is 12:00 hrs and a total of over $10million will be up for grabs throughout the day.
