– facilitator is Japanese Karate exponent Yasuaki Nagatomo (6th Dan)
The JKA/WF Guyana is in preparation for their first grading exercise of 2012. Local Chief Instructor Sensei Christopher Chaves – 4th Dan said this promises not only to be special but it is also the most anticipated.
Samuel Arjoon, Shankar Singh, Marlon George, Shermon Kyte, Storm Katchay and Shaqueel Amin will be tested for their Shodan Rank (1st degree black belt).
Testing will be conducted by the Charismatic 6th Dan – Japanese Master and ‘A’ Class JKA Judge – Sensei Nagatomo who is originally from Kyushu, Japan and now resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he is Chief Instructor of New Mexico and serves as member of the Operating Board of JKA/WF America.
In addition to Shodan testing, Sensei Nagatomo will conduct a special training clinic at the Headquarters Dojo, National Park, Thomas Lands and also in Berbice.
On Saturday afternoon, Sensei Nagatomo will be in Berbice to conduct examination. Members of JKA/WF Guyana from Port Mourant and Canje Dojos will for the first time experience the presence of a Japanese Examiner.
The last Dan examination (1st Degree Black Belt) was conducted by the keen Master Nagatomo in 2010, whose precision in judgment is as a razors edge. Sensei Chaves noted that endurance, a good show of character development, respect, humility and high technical ability are some of the fundamental requirements students will need to possess in order to be successful when graded.
Examinations are set to commence at 08:30hrs Saturday (today) at JKA/WF Guyana Headquarters Dojo, Thomas Lands, Georgetown, and for Berbice members at 15:00hrs also today sat Rosehall Community Centre, Canje.
All members of the public and the martial arts fraternity are invited and will be welcomed to attend the sessions in Georgetown and Berbice.
