– efforts in the making for Track & Field coaches at conclusion of Synthetic Track
As committed by Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports, two Cuban experts in the field of sports, this time Swimming and Boxing were contracted yesterday to assist in the mass development of swimming and boxing when they distribute their wealth of knowledge and experience to Guyanese.
A few months ago, the Ministry welcomed Coach Kumiko Inuzuka of JICA, a Japanese Volunteered Organisation which allows countries to access professionals and experts in various schemes, who will give their time and skills to help from a technical standing point.
Guyana will now have another swimming coach, Isabel Maria Couso Fals of Cuba to assist Japanese Coach, Inuzuka, in the development of swimming. Isabel Maria Couso Fals, who will be working hand in hand with the other coach, has a Degree in Bachelor of Physical Culture with 20 years of work experience.
Boxing will also receive a boost when Franciso Hernandez Roldan who has Bachelor Degree in Physical Culture and Recreation and Major in Boxing for the High Performance Sports when he starts his designed strategic programme which will develop boxing in Guyana.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports lauded the relationship between Guyana and Cuba and was pleased that the two countries strengthen their relationship through sports which has never been done before.
Anthony believes that the quality of sports will improve with the additional two Cuban coaches. He noted the use of the Six Head Lewis Gym as one of the ways in lifting the quality of boxing in Guyana, “The Six Head Lewis Gym will be converted into an Elite Training Centre for the best boxers in Guyana. The Gym will also be getting some new equipment to meet the requirement of the training needed and also a dormitory for the boxers who reside out of town; these will make the Gym more functional.”
He added that courses will be in place for swimming and boxing coaches along with officials.
Dr. Frank Anthony also hinted that the Ministry is currently in discussion to import coaches for Track and Field athletes who will be using the Synthetic Track in Leonora which is under construction.
Cuban Ambassador Raul Gortazai Marrero in his brief remarks stated that he was happy with the new engagement and added that with the country’s talent, Guyana will be attending more International competition with the aid of the two experts who will assist in the development of sports.
With the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports promoting sports for national developmental, a beginners swimming programme along with a life guard training programme will be conducted for interested persons, these sessions will be directed by the coaches as they try to match Guyana’s human resources with its infrastructure.
