A boyfriend will have to post $25,000 bail after he reportedly slapped his girlfriend with a mosquito zapper.
Kelvin Depleager was charged for unlawfully and maliciously wounding his girlfriend, Marcia Gordon, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution alleges that on Thursday last at Pike Street, Kitty, he reportedly wounded the woman after she denied knowing a man.
It was also alleged that on the day in question, the defendant accused the victim of knowing a man, and after the woman denied, he slapped her with a mosquito zapper causing her mouth to burst and bleed.
The police said that 31-year-old Depleager then started to choke his girlfriend.
A report was however made and the defendant was arrested.
Former Magistrate, Gordon Gilhuys, represented the defendant.
He told the court that after tempers cooled he was sure that the couple would resolve their matter and that it was a simple misunderstanding between the two persons.
