Hadley Mc Kenzie, 19, and Royden Johnson, 20, of Sand Hills Berbice River who were among a trio arrested by police at Sand Hills, up the Berbice River on February 20 last were given jail terms of four years each by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on the charge of possession of Narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The case for the prosecution was that around 11:00 hrs on the day in question the police carried out a raid at a farm at Sand Hills, Berbice River where the defendants along with another man, Edwin Joseph called ‘Eddoman,’ were found with a quantity of marijuana plants.
The men were arrested and the plants, when weighed, amounted to some 18 kilograms. They appeared in court and were refused bail. The three accused were subsequently placed on bail by the high court. However, Mc Kenzie and Johnson did not return to court and were jailed in their absence.
The case against Edwin Joseph called ‘Eddoman’ is continuing.
