– victim’s relative appeals to cops to intensify search
Some believe that he has fled the country, but relatives of murder victim Bibi Shameena Deen believe that the man suspected of shooting her dead is still hiding in close proximity to the community where the brutal killing occurred.
Guyana-born US citizen Ramdhanie Persaud, called ‘Prack’, has not been seen since his wife’s body was found in the couple’s home at Canefield, Canje, Berbice, with bullet wounds to the head and chest.
The killing allegedly occurred on Tuesday night during an argument between Persaud and Deen. Persaud reportedly fled the home while the victim’s teenage son was attempting to summon help after hearing his mother’s screams.
A relative of the slain woman said yesterday that the suspect’s family members have called from overseas to give their condolences. However, there has been no word from the alleged killer.
The relative suspects that Persaud is either hiding out in the canefields or in the vast backlands surrounding the community.
According to the relative, the suspect grew up in the area and knows the backlands well. He also speculated that the fugitive may have money in his possession.
The relative is appealing to the police to intensify their search in the backlands and canefields. Police are in possession of Persaud’s US passport.
Reports indicate that Persaud came home in a drunken rage on Tuesday night and shot his wife some two hours later in the couple’s bedroom.
The couple’s teenage son, Ravendra Persaud was at home when the brutal killing occurred.
He heard her cries for help at around 23:00 hrs but found the bedroom locked when he tried to go to his mother’s assistance.
The lad then telephoned an uncle, Santkumar Depaul, of Lot 40 West Reliance Settlement, Canje, but by then the suspect had fled.
When they arrived at the home, Bibi Shameena’s relatives found her lying face-down in a large pool of blood in the bedroom.
A postmortem performed revealed that she was shot at close range in the head and chest. Initial reports had stated that she was stabbed.
Cause of death was given as shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries, laceration to the brain and a fractured skull.
The couple’s 27-year-old relationship is said to have been a turbulent one. Two months ago, Persaud was placed on one-year bond, after he had been charged for assaulting his wife.
Police has issued a wanted bulletin for Persaud.
The bulletin gave his date of birth as October 30, 1966, and his last known address as Lot 1071 New Area, Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.
The release appealed to persons with information of the fugitive’s whereabouts to contact the police on telephone numbers: 333-2191, 333-2151, 226-1326, 225-2227, 225-8196,
225-6411, 911 or at the nearest police station.
