Veteran Junior Niles restored some pride for the senior riders by pedaling
to victory in the feature 30-lap contest even as the junior cyclists continue to show encouraging capacity for the big times.
Niles, who also won the veteran under-50 5-lap contest, was the standout rider when the Roraima Bikers Club held the 6th annual George Cumberbatch Memorial Cycle Meet at the Inner Circuit of the National Park, yesterday, sponsored by Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products of Kettley Street, Charlestown.
Niles won easily from juniors Paul DeNobrega and Raul Leal in One Hour 04 Minutes 36 Seconds, the trio breaking away from the pack in a fluctuating race with five to go. Closing out the top six positions were Alonzo Greaves, Robin Persaud and Akeem Arthur.
Persaud captured 2 of the 10 prime prizes with one each to Niles, DeNobrega, Leal, Greaves, Orville Hinds, Albert Philander, Alex Mendes and Seon Alves.
The main contest attracted Thirty-five starters with the lead changing from time to time, no rider or group for the most part was able to pull away for any considerable length of time during the race expect for the final five laps.

Veteran over-50 (5 lasp) – Virgil Jones, Walter Isaacs, Kirkwood Kendall
Veteran under-50 (5 laps) – Junior Niles, Keith Fernandes, Kennard Lovell
BMX 9-1 (1 lap) – Jamal Arthur, Briton John, Denzil Huntley
BMX 12-14 (1 lap) – Cleveland King, Philbert Walters
BMX open (2 laps) – Makel Diaz, Cleveland King, Jamal Arthur
Feature 30-laps – Junior Niles, Paul DeNobrega, Raul Leal, Alonzo Greaves, Robin Persaud, Akeem Arthur
