Extremely talented local forward, Natasha Alder led the Guyana women’s basketball team to a four-point 52-48 points win in their opening game over CPTSA Wings in the 12th Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out at the JSC Sports Complex in Antigua.
Alder dropped 13 points, most of which came in the last half to lead the team to an impressive start in the competition that includes national teams from defending champions, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, St. Kitts and host, Antigua and Barbuda.
While details of the win remain sketchy, President of the Guyana Women’s Basketball Association, Michaela Burnett was able to confirm the win for the local ladies last night. The competition will continue over this weekend and conclude on March 18 on the island.
“The juniors caught my attention especially. To my surprise, Danny (Coach Bernard Daniels) put (Lowquantor) Gibson in at the end of the game, and she proved to be a clutch-player after getting to the line and hitting baskets. (Ginelle) Ifill’s height was a problem for the defense, as she was able to snatch offensive rebounds and score,” Burnett indicated.
