The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has congratulated the Guyana Cricket team following their impressive victory over Barbados in the Regional 4-Day tournament. In a release the ministry said, “The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport hereby joins with the Guyana Interim Management Committee (IMC) to hail and congratulate the Guyana Cricket team for today’s (Monday 12th March 2012) emphatic victory over Barbados in their fifth round Four-Day match at the Kensington Oval in the Barbadians’ Homeland.
Any such win would normally attract congratulations, but the Minister and Ministry find this triumph especially special. And that’s because we’ve beaten the Bajans at home, especially pleasing to all Guyanese cricket-lovers, and the victory in this match is significantly symbolic as it typifies that out of adversity and uncertainty character could be emboldened and empowered to produce the attitudes and skills for triumph.”
“The Chanderpaul led eleven, no doubt inspired by his presence, commitment and skills, made short shift of the Barbadians this morning. This too was testimony to the power of team work as both the younger team members and the “veterans”- Chanderpaul, Fudadin, Deonarine- combined to secure a telling triumph, thus ensuring Guyana’s standing within the top three or four of the competition.”
“Neither the Ministry of Sport nor the IMC will dwell on the obvious challenges the past weeks have presented this team with. With this victory let us pledge to do all that has to be legitimately done to enhance Guyana’s all round cricket- its administration, its infrastructure, its long-term future. Congrats to the entire Guyana Cricket Team!”
