Dear Editor,
We wish to condemn the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) arrogant, rude and vindictive attitude to the administration of our regional cricket, and call for the immediate resignation of WICB President, Julian Hunte and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ernest Hillarie.
Their reckless and irresponsible administration continues unabated with the regional body exhibiting total disrespect and arrogance to the comments made by Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller.
The WICB had previously shown the same disrespectful attitude towards Chief Justice, Ian Chang’s ruling and the Government of Guyana as they sought to bring remedy to the messy affair in which Guyana’s cricket has found itself.
Evidently, the body has its own agenda, which in our view, has its genesis in a planned conspiracy to establish the dominance of a particular segment of the West Indies Cricketing Diaspora over and above the others.
It is as plain as day that the sidelining of Gayle, Sarwan, Ramdin, Bravo and Chanderpaul was a deliberate ploy calculated to establish Darren Sammy as the captain of the senior West Indies Cricket Team.
The leaders behind this move cared not for the development of WI Cricket which continues its rapid decline, but seemingly are only interested in their own prominence, and aspirations, aimed at establishing their political ambitions.
Their offer of opportunities and positions particularly to the Barbadians and Guyanese Officials, helped to achieve those desired objectives. Conveniently, Trinidad and Jamaican administrators are left adrift.
Not even the Vice-President of the WICB, a Jamaican, could influence acceptable policy changes lest he loses his position on the Board.
Amazingly, a Board that engages five doctors continues to make some of the most scandalous decisions including the disconnection of its only ‘cricket “doctor”’, Clive Hubert Lloyd, who had distinguished himself on the field of play, travelled the world and nobly exhibiting what a true West Indies Ambassador he is.
This sad situation requires immediate intervention of the Leaders of the Caribbean before this power-wielding body grows further out of control. The Caribbean leading ladies, Simpson-Miller and Trinidad’s Prime Minister, Kamla Bissessar-Parsad are both right, and we support their positions unequivocally. Let the Caribbean People take back their cricket from this uncaring, irresponsible group of self-serving individuals. The survival of our cricket is at stake. Shame on you WICB Board Directors; do the honorable thing and resign.
Thank you.
