– as Trophy Stall/LABA League resumes tonight
After a break due to the inclement weather, the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) Trophy Stall-Sponsored League will resume tomorrow with a double-header at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.
In the opening game from 6:30pm, Amelia’s Ward Jets will battle with Half Mile Bulls, while the second game brings together the undefeated Kashif and Shanghai Kings to play the last team to win a National Championship title, Wismar Pistons.
Kings have played four games so far, winning all in a convincing manner with only Victory Valley Royals pushing them to the limit.
However, fortunately for the Pistons, Kings will be without their ‘big man’ and the tournament’s leading scorer, Jason Alonzo due to his work commitment. The six foot, six inches center has been averaging over 20 points per game, and just as many rebounds, during his team’s unbeaten surge in the League.
The other known offensive players for Kings, Steve Neils Jr. and Marvin Hartman, seems to be having lots of trouble finding their best form. Both Neils and Hartman, who are marksmen from downtown, are so far struggling to get meaningful contributions on the board.
Kings’ player/coach, Abdullah ‘Zico’ Hamid will be hard pressed to ensure that his team keep its winning formula intact even when missing an important component in Alonzo.
Meanwhile, Pistons, who have only won one of their three games played thus far, will be happy to change their fortunes against the top ranked Kings. Pistons last defeated Retrieve Raiders after falling short to the Royals and Jets respectively.
The opening game promises to be an entertaining one with the unpredictable Bulls taking on a team that is on a three-game win streak since losing their first game of the tournament to the Victory Valley Royals.
Jets led by captain Kevin ‘2-feet’ Joseph are presently lodged at third place in the League with seven points, and a win tonight can shake things up a bit especially if Pistons get the better of the Kings.
Below is the present points and team standing in respective order:
TEAMS GAMES PLAYED WINS LOST POINTS
V/Valley Royals 5 4 1 9
K&S Kings 4 4 – 8
Amelia’s Ward Jets 4 3 1 7
Half Mile Bulls 4 2 2 6
Retrieve raiders 5 1 4 6
Block 22 Flames 5 – 5 5
Wismar Pistons 3 1 2 4
