The battle line will be drawn again between two villages that go back a long way when it comesto football rivalry, Den Amstel and Uitvlugt both affiliated to the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA).
The two villages will clash for championship honours in the final of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) sponsored WDFA Under-17 Inter Club Tournament which will end at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground today following the exciting group stages.
The last time these two villages met, Uitvlugt defeated the home team 5-3, however the boys in green are very optimistic that this time around the results will be different.
In last Saturday’s semi finals at the same venue, Uitvlugt had to pull out all the stops to get past a determined Eagles United FC. After being down 6-1 at halftime, Eagles came out full throttle in the second half scoring five consecutive goals to level the scores.
Unfortunate for Eagles, the Uitvlugt Captain was brought down in the box with 3 minutes to full time and he made no mistake from the spot, sending Eagles goalie in the wrong direction to seal a hard fought and exciting victory.
The second game was more of a one sided affair with the home team enjoying the better of Wales FC 7-0.
The first game today brings together Den Amstel and Uitvlugt in an Under-13 encounter that commences at 11:00hrs to be followed by the Under-17 third place game between Eagles and Wales with the final set to kick off at 15:00hrs.
Trophies and medals which were provided by the GFF will be distributed at the conclusion of the game.
