A 17-year-old Pomona Secondary School student is currently receiving medical treatment after he was beaten severely by a 14-member gang of school leavers.
The incident occurred at around 16:30h on Monday afternoon.
A Pomona Secondary School student related that Germaine Fredericks, the 17-year-old Technical Drawing student from Aurora Village, on the Essequibo Coast, had left his school about two minutes earlier, on his way home, when he was confronted by the gang who proceeded to beat him with steel rods and wood about his head and his body.
A man from the village, who noticed what was happening, chased away the boys with a cutlass.
Fredericks lay helpless on the road and was later assisted and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, Essequibo Coast, where he is currently a patient.
Eyewitness said the boys fled in a sports utility vehicle. No one could say why Fredericks was beaten.
