Beef Humphrey Memorial/ BHS Inter School Basketball Tournament

After two days of competition Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) upstaged their counterparts to walk away with the “Beef Humphrey” Memorial/ Berbice High School (BHS) Interschool Basketball Tournament which was staged recently over two days at the BHS tarmac.
The competition was part of the BHS Physical Education (PE) Fifth form class fulfillment of their School Based Assessment (S BA) Caribbean Examination Secondary Education Council Examination (CESEC) project.

The competition, which was played on a Round Robin basis, saw four schools participating from the original six invited. The schools that participated were host Berbice High School (BHS), New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) and Berbice Educational Institute.
Results of the matches played were as follows. In the first game BEI upset NAMS 23-18 after the game was tied 16 all at regulation time. TASS then whipped BHS 28-4. The next game saw BHS winning by walk over from NAMS. BEI then trounced BHS 30-4.
In the final, TASS led by leading scorer Jamal Felix with 16 points, played consistently to get the better of BEI 27-21. Supporting Felix was R. Thomas with 6 points. Top scoring for BEI were S. McKenzie and T. Emanuel with 8 points each.
At the end of the competition the winning and runner up teams were presented with trophies and other accolades compliments of the Humphrey family.
TASS received the “Beef” Humphrey Memorial Trophy which was being played for the 14th year and 10 replicas, while BEI collected the runner up trophy and 10 medals. Jamal Felix of TASS was awarded for being the top scorer with 41 points.
The theme of the Competition was “Keeping Basketball Alive” in keeping with this year’s Mashramani celebrations.
Play on both days began at 15:00 hrs and the games were played over 30 minutes duration. Each win was worth two points. Neil “Grizzly” Humphrey was the coordinator.
