– athletes to better performance at next developmental meet on March 1
Robert Chisholm, Coach of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Track Club, stated yesterday in a candid interview that his club performance was fair at the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) Developmental meet last Sunday at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Kingston.
Chisholm said that the performance could be referred to as fair to him since the club was basically doing strength and endurance work.
Revealing to Kaieteur Sport that the next developmental meet which is slated for Linden, will be a different performance from his athletes, Chisholm noted that it was only Monday that they (Club) had started doing their speed work, which will increase the athletes performance.
Asked about his decision on Letitia Myles, who ran the fastest time for the season thus far in the 100m participating in the women category instead of the U-20 group, Chisholm disclosed that the only reason for placing her in that category was to get a better perception of where she is, to know what kind of work load is needed to make her qualify for the upcoming CARIFTA Trials on March 4.
Myles, who took an early lead in the women’s 100m, won the race in 12.2 seconds ahead of Neisa Allen of Running Brave Athletic Club and also her team mate Tiffany Smith, who ended in 13.1 seconds. Myles was defeated in the 200m by Allen who sprinted to 25.6 seconds leaving the former to clock 26.2 seconds to be the runner up.
In regards of Patrick King, who won the men’s 100m in absence of his two club mates (Rupert Perry and Quinse Clarke) who are the top sprinters of the club, Chisholm stated that his performance was “Okay” since he lately started training.
Adding to that, the coach revealed that King’s pet event is the 400m but entered him in the 100m and 200m to aid in his development of speed for his actual event.
Coming down to the Guyana’s Little Kenyan, Cleveland Forde, who lately joined the Guyana Defence Force, Chisholm disclosed that Forde’s joining of the Force helped him improve tremendously and he will be expecting faster timings from him as the athletic 2012 season progresses.
The GDF Coach further stated that after inspecting Forde, he recognized his short comings in his events and corrected them (the short comings), which aided in him running under the 31mintues barrier in a cross country last year.
Chisholm concluded by noting Ashanti Scott’s weak area which he’s currently working on, “She needs more speed work and everything will be okay.”
Names mentioned for the CARIFTA Trails are as follow for the GDF Track Club: Darien Henry, Akeem Stewart, Devon Barrington, Davin Fraser, Letitia Myles and Tiffany Smith.
