A 34-year-old miner from South Ruimveldt is feared drowned after his boat capsized in the Mazaruni River, Region Seven.
Searchers are trying to locate the body of Martin Thompson, 34, of 1856 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, South Ruimveldt.
Thompson’s sister, Pauline McKenzie, yesterday told Kaieteur News that relatives received the news around 08:00hrs. McKenzie said that it was another brother in the interior who broke the news to relatives in Georgetown.
Relatives were yesterday desperately trying to get confirmation about what happened since they have been receiving mixed reports. One report, the sister said, was that Thompson, was on his boat and it capsized and he did not surface.
According to the woman, her brother has been working in the interior since he was 18-years-old. She said that he is a father of three and only returned to the interior late last month.
Investigations are continuing into the matter.
