– last year four athletes represented Guyana in Jamaica
In two weeks, to be precise, March 4th, athletes from across the trails will be vying to be selected to
represent Guyana at the 2012 CARIFTA Games in Hamilton, Bermuda from 6th-9th of April at the National Stadium.
Following the official results from the first Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) developmental meet at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Kingston last Sunday, some of the youth and juniors athletes would have already signaled their worth to the selectors; while some will be waiting to display theirs on the day of the trials.
Researching on the upcoming Games, AAG had a total of four athletes representing Guyana at the meet last year. Melissa Byass had the privilege of running the girls’ 400 meter dash under-17 (58.97 seconds), Nathaniel Giddings of Upper Demerara Club ran the boys under-20, 1500m (4:38.83 seconds) and 5000m (17:33.46 seconds), Jevina Straker ran the girls 800m U-20 (2:21.02 seconds) and the 1500m U-20 girls (4:55.49 seconds), Stephan James represented his country in the 200m (22.58 seconds) boys under-20 and the 400 boys (48.46 seconds).
