-overseas body donates books `
A quantity of children’s books was donated to the library of Georgetown Public
Hospital Corporation’s Paediatric Ward on Friday.
Making the donation was former Secretary of the Association of Guyanese Nurses and Allied Professionals (AGNAP), Gerald Shury, a London- based Guyanese.
AGNAP is a not-for-profit organisation that assists nurses in Guyana, through various sponsored programmes and educational sessions.
GPHC Public Relations Officer, Alero Proctor, told Kaieteur News that AGNAP once held library sessions, where members of the organisation sat at the children’s bedside and read to them.
Despite the donations, the hospital is calling on interested groups and individuals to volunteer their services by visiting the hospital to have this activity resuscitated. Proctor emphasised that educational activities are extremely necessary for the children, who are missing vital time in school due to their hospitalisation. Although some reading is done by the parents and nurses, it is hoped that this is developed into a more long-term and structured activity.
