Cyclists are preparing for another hectic weekend in an already busy season. They will collide this
weekend in the 21st Mashramani Cycling events sponsored by R&R International Ltd. from the inception and organised by National Coach, Hassan Mohamed.
On Saturday, riders will face off in the 11-Meet set for the Inner Circuit of the National Park which they will use as warm up for Sunday big road race that will take place on the West Demerara, familiar terrain for all.
No one rider has dominated the top podium placing so far this year which makes this weekend’s activities the more interesting.
The feature, school boys & invitational 35-lap contest was won by Alonzo Greaves (1hr. 16mins. 14 secs.) in 2011 but there is no guarantee that he will repeat this time around.
The seasoned and proven stalwarts along with some rising young stars will all be mirroring ambitions of taking the top place on Saturday and Sunday, only time will tell who that or those persons will be.
Linden’s Michael Anthony was the winner of last year’s junior 10-lap clash but he will be facing the likes of Raynauth Jeffrey and Raul Leal among others. His winning time last year was 13 minutes 10 seconds.
Veteran Kennard Lovell has not been in the pink of form so far this year but will be seeking to hit the jackpot when he faces the line as the winner of the veterans under-50 race last time around.
The other races for Saturday are as follows: (See table below)
The 40-miler on the West Demerara last year saw Robin Persaud crossing the line in 1 hour 42 minutes 41 seconds; Raynauth Jeffrey and Junior Niles copped the junior and veterans top positions.
Sunday’s race will pedal off from the Demerara Harbour Bridge; proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to the Harbour Bridge for the finish.
The first six finishers will be rewarded with the first two juniors, veterans also collecting prizes. Six primes will also be up for grabs.
Former cyclist and Managing Director of R & R International Limited, Mr. Jacob Rambarran is expected to be on hand to assist with the presentation of prizes. Race time on both days is 09:00hrs.
