With the opening act of the 2012 horseracing season one week away after more than two months rest, the principals of the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf club has heightened preparations for the season opening meet now slated for Sunday February 26th at the Clubs facility, Alness Corentyne, Berbice.
A whopping $5M in cash, trophies and other incentives are up for grabs in the nine-race meet. So far, over 40 of the country’s top racehorses have taken entry for what is expected to be a grand and exciting day of racing.
The main feature event, which will be sponsored by Beverage giant Banks DIH, is for horses classified B and lower over a distance of 1500M with the first prize being tagged at $700,000 and the Banks DIH Limited trophy.
The other events include the E&F and lower race now fetches a winning money of $350,000 over 1200M. The event for 4yrs old Guyana & West Indies Bred horses classified F1 and lower also has a winning purse of $350,000 over 1500M.
The 3yr old Guyana and West Indies Bred race is for a $300,000 first prize over 1400M. The three year old race for Guyana Bred horses has a winning money of $250,000 over 1200M. The G class race will now be a 1500M race for the pole position money of $200,000. The H1 and lower competitors will battle for a winning purse of $160,000 now over 1200M.
The I2 race replaces the I3 contest and will have a winning money of $120,000 over 1200M.
There is a J K and L Division 1, 2 and 3 contest will see the winner getting 90,000 over 1200M. Some of the animals expected to be on show are; The Message, Donut Prince, Dubai Duchess, Face the Music, Technology, Night Crescendo, Work Force, Damascus Dream, Momzelle, Miracle Run, Majestic, Settle In Seattle, Prado’s Gold, Come Dance with me, Watch My Shadow, Pegasus Rising, Savion Mona Lisa, Funny Side, Quincy, Lucky Gamble and Sporting Time among others.
Among the sponsors so far are Banks DIH limited, Digicel, Trophy Stall Bourda market, Delmur Company Limited, Omai Transportation, Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff of the Shariff Racing Stable, Attorney at Law Poonai and The RCMTC&SF.
The meet will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. Entries are expected to close today.
