Police ranks have been dispatched to the interior to investigate the murder of a 53-year-old watchman, whose bound body was found on Wednesday in a mining camp at Arimu Backdam, Cuyuni.
A police release stated that Kumar Plummer, of Line Path, Skeldon, was found at the site with his limbs bound with polythene rope.
Another length or rope was tied around his neck. The body bore no other marks of violence and it is suspected that the watchman was strangled.
Kaieteur News understands that Plummer had worked for several years with a miner who lives at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne.
According to a source, the watchman was left alone in the camp to look over mining equipment, while his employer and other workers shifted to another camp about an hour’s drive away.
He was reportedly last seen alive at around 05:00 hrs on Sunday.
Kaieteur News was told that persons, who were passing through the area on Wednesday, spotted Kumar’s bound body and informed the police.
It is still unclear if anything was stolen from the camp, since investigators have not returned from the location.
Kumar’s body was taken yesterday to the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
