Cyclists in the Ancient County of Berbice are set to collide on Mash Day, February 23 when the
Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) brings off their annual 45-miles cycle road race in observance of Mashramani celebrations.
According to co-ordinator Randolph Roberts, the race which is open to Berbicians only and members of the FACC, will pedal off at 08:30hrs from the Marks Bridge at Lot 60 Stanleytown, proceed to Adventure on the Corentyne Coast before returning for finish at Main and Alexander Streets, New Amsterdam.
Juvenile and female riders will turn back at Tain also on the Corentyne, covering a distance of 30 miles.
Competition will be in five categories, open, juniors, juveniles, veterans and females. Ten (10) prime prizes will be up for grabs while prizes will be awarded to the first six finishers, the first two juniors and three juveniles. Prizes in the female and veteran categories will depend on the number of starters.
According to the Club, a number of business entities have already contributed but more are still welcome. Those interested can contact Club Coach Randolph Roberts. Last year’s event was sponsored by the Regional Administration. Top Berbice cyclist Neil Reece is the defending champion.
