The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) rainy season Coaching Programme would continue this weekend with the hosting of a one-day Academy for West Berbice Youths and a Clinic for promising junior fast bowlers.
The West Berbice Academy will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the Bush Lot Ground for 40 Under-13 to 19 players. Coaches Julian Moore and Michael Hyles Franco would conduct the sessions and would assist the players to improve their batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping skills. Special emphasis will be placed on physical and mental fitness, concentration and personal discipline.
As part of Board’s efforts to assist in the development of young fast bowlers, a fast bowler’s clinic will be held on Sunday (February 19), at the Area ‘H’ Ground in Rose Hall Town from 09:00 to 12:00hrs. Coaches will work with bowlers on their run up, delivery action and follow through among other areas. A total of twenty-four (24) fast bowlers are expected to be at the bowling clinic.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster who is coordinating the sessions stated that they were not allowing the rainy season to affect their work schedule and was taking the opportunity to organise coaching sessions for every zone and area in the County by way of special clinics for batsmen, fast bowlers, wicket keepers, spinner and junior captains.
Last weekend the Board organised a highly successful wicket-keeper clinic for 17 Under-15 players which was held at the Blairmont, Berbice High School, Albion and Skeldon Grounds during the week. A 40-man junior elite squad would be announced this week to start preparation for the upcoming Under-15 Inter County tournament.
All clubs in Berbice are encouraged to take advantage of the coaching programme and to send their players this weekend to the Academy and Fast Bowling Clinic. Head Coach Julian Moore can be contacted on telephone nos 333 5491 or 615 9239 for more information.
