Sixteen trained individuals were added to the growing list of qualified Sports
Administrators last weekend after completing the syllabus of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)-sponsored Course under the aegis of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).
The 13th Course of its kind to be held in Guyana over a four-day period addressed issues such as the Olympic Movement, Olympic Programmes, Sport and the Environment and HIV/AIDS and Sports. It also dealt with Budgeting and the Management of Money, Problems facing Sports in Developing Countries, Nutrition for Athletes, Values and the Ethics of Sports and Sports and the Law.
There were 21 registrants and 16 successfully completed the course. Participants came from the Athletics Association, Football Federation, Table Tennis Federation, Karate Association, Rugby Board, Cricket Board, Weightlifting Federation, Cycling Federation, Boxing Board, the Bank of Guyana and the Prison and Fire Services.
They were required to undertake “Group Work” assignments with a final examination being one of the prerequisites for completing syllabus. The successful candidates were all given certificates of participation from the IOC through its local affiliate.
